About

Wigginton & Haxby Table Tennis Club was founded in 2013 by a group of local people who wanted to play table tennis on a regular basis. We entered our first team into the York & District Table Tennis League, and started up weekly club nights.

The club played for the first three and a half years on two borrowed tables at the local community centre, but as the membership increased every year we reached a point where we outgrew this facility and needed to look for something larger.

In 2017, we were awarded grants from Aviva and Hungate Community Funds allowing us to buy our own tables. At the same time we moved to the larger Wigginton Recreation Hall, and became a Table Tennis England PremierClub.

The club now has five teams in the York & District leagues, and matches are played alongside club nights most Wednesdays at the hall. Take a look at the home page for our next club night as well as results and fixtures for the teams.

Club Times

The club meets on Wednesdays between 7pm and 9:30pm.

Please see home page for details of the next session, and the calendar for future sessions.

Fees

The first session is free to try out table tennis at our club - bats and balls are available to borrow.

Following this, we charge £3 for adults and £2 for children (up to 18 years) per session.

Safeguarding

Wigginton & Haxby Table Tennis Club takes safeguarding of young people and other vulnerable groups very seriously and has put in place policies and processes to ensure that this is adhered to during sessions and throughout our organisation.

Our volunteers have completed the North Yorkshire Safeguarding Children Board Safeguarding Course, and our chair, Tony Fairburn is DBS Checked.

We have adopted the stringent safeguarding guidelines of Table Tennis England, and provide a copy of our declaration below:

Safeguarding Statement

The policies and documents that we adhere to are provided on this page:

Please contact us if you have any concerns or questions about these policies.

Accessibility

Our club venue at Wigginton Recreation Hall is accessible to people with disabilities.

We have Table Tennis Tables that are Wheelchair Friendly.

Funding

In 2015 we received a grant from Wigginton Parish Council for our first table tennis table.

In 2016, another grant from Wigginton Parish Council allowed us to enter a young team into the York & District Table Tennis League.

In 2017, a grant from the Aviva Community Fund allowed us to purchase two new tables.

Also in 2017, a grant from Hungate Community Fund was used to purchase another two new tables and barriers for our new location.

We are very grateful to all our sponsors for their generosity in helping us to grow the club. Thank you!
